In Portugal’s UEFA Euro 2012 campaign, CR7 scored seven goals, including two strikes against Bosnia in the play-offs for the tournament. Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Denmark were drawn in group B which was widely referred to as the “Group of death” in the tournament. CR7 stated that he will only be fully content with his career when he has lifted a trophy with Portugal. He stated it in an interview with Kicker Magazine. CR7 was criticized for under performing, walking off into the changing rooms straight after the match and showing frustration at his and his team-mates’ errors after the opening 0-1 defeat against Germany. Nani (CR7’s team-mate) later defended him. He stated that Ronaldo had left the pitch as he needed to instantly be treated for a possible injury. Nani also added that Ronaldo was under excessive pressure. It is a question whether Ronaldo Performance in UEFA Euro was tremendous or not.

CR7 missed two gilt-edged one-on-one chances during the group stage match between Denmark and Portugal in a 3-2 win. CR7 scored two goals and had two other chances go against the woodwork to secure a 2-1 victory for Portugal in the final group match between Netherlands and Portugal. The victory allowed the team to advance to the quarterfinals. Ronaldo was named “man of the Match”. Due to his great performance against the Czech Republic in quarter-finals, CR7 was praised. His performance sent Portugal into the semi finals with a 1-0 victory. Ronaldo ran to the camera and chanted “para ti” after scoring the winning goal. He dedicated the goal to his son. Ronaldo was named “Man of the Match” for second time throughout the tournament.
CR7 had many chances in the semi-final against Spain but he sent three shots over the bar. Ronaldo’s best chance came in the 90th minute. Unfortunately he shot the ball high and wide. The interesting match ended with penalties but he did not take a penalty in the shootout because he had been slated to take the fifth one. Ronaldo later, was criticized the Portugal coach Paulo Bento. CR7 was particularly hailed by Diego Maradona before and after the tournament. Diego Maradona described Ronaldo as the best player on the planet. He went on to say that CR7 had shown his countrymen that he does deserve a monument in Lisbon. Cr7 was also included in the UEFA Euro 2012 team of the Tournament.
